Aten 25mg Tablet

Aten 25 mg is contraindicated in sinus bradycardia, cardiogenic shock, and overt cardiac failure. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity should not use the Atenolol or any of the ingredients of the medicine. Do not use alcohol or over-the-counter products without consulting the doctor. If diabetic, monitor blood glucose levels closely; this may help to alter glucose tolerance or mask signs of hypoglycemia.

Atenolol should be used cautiously when used concomitantly with drugs like reserpine, other beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, disopyramide and amiodarone, and clonidine withdrawal. Care should be taken if beta blockers must be discontinued abruptly in patients with coronary disease. Severe exacerbation of chest pain and heart problems have occurred following the abrupt discontinuation of beta blockers.

Caution is necessary in case of diabetes and thyroid problems as its effects may mask the symptoms of hypoglycemia and thyrotoxicosis; rapid medicine withdrawal may also precipitate a thyroid storm. Exercise caution during pregnancy; Atenolol is associated with growth restriction in the fetus.

Aten may cause dizziness, fatigue, or postural hypotension; use caution when changing position from lying or sitting to standing, driving, or climbing stairs until a response to medication is known. It is important to report unresolved swelling of extremities, breathing problems, new cough, unresolved fatigue,  unresolved constipation, unusual muscle weakness, or unusual weight gain.

Follow your doctor’s instructions when it comes to taking this medicine. Depending on the effects of the drug on patients, he may make variations to the dosage. Do not increase, decrease, or adjust dosage without consulting.

Doctors generally advised that this drug should not be discontinued suddenly as it can further worsen the side effects of the drug, and patient’s conditions should be carefully monitored.,

In elderly patients or patients with renal impairment- Aten 25 mg is excreted by the kidneys; consequently, the dosage should be adjusted in severe kidney function impairment cases. In general, dose selection for an elderly patient should be cautiously made, usually starting at the low end of the dosing range reflecting the greater frequency of decreased liver, kidney, or cardiac function, concomitant disease or other drug therapy. Evaluation of patients with high blood pressure or heart attack should always include an assessment of kidney function. Atenolol excretion would be expected to decrease with increasing age.
