Description
Foracort inhaler 6/200 mcg is a prescription combination drug for the long term, twice daily, maintenance treatment of asthma in patients twelve years of age and older. One of the active ingredients of Foracort inhaler is Budesonide and the other one is Formoterol; both have different mechanism of action and show additive effects in term of reduction of asthma symptoms. The combination medicine is a treatment of choice for treating obstructive airways disease such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is quite effective as a long term, therapy where symptoms are not adequately controlled using a preventer medication. The combination of Budesonide and Formoterol has been shown to provide promising results when it comes to treating symptoms of severe COPD where symptoms have not improved by using a single drug.
Product Description
You should not use Foracort Inhaler 6/400mcg if you are allergic to Formoterol or budesonide. Getting pregnant without discussion with your doctor can put your baby at a risk of developing deformities. Let your doctor know if you have cardiovascular disease including rapid heartbeat or heart failure. In additions, your doctor should be aware of your medical conditions such as diabetes, problems with potassium levels, and thyroid problems.
Several medications may interact with either Budesonide or Formoterol. Drugs that affect the mode of action of Foracort inhaler include beta blocker eye drops, antifungal drugs, antiarrhythmics, antihistamines, and diuretics for water retention. To avoid drug interactions, please tell your doctor of all the medicines that you may be using these may include your prescription, non-prescription, vitamins, or herbal supplements.
Side Effects
The most common side effects that you may experience while taking Foracort Inhaler 6/400mcg are sore throat, tremor, palpitations, throat infection, headache, nasopharyngitis, rapid heartbeat etc. Paradoxical bronchospasm is rare but a serious condition that can worsen breathing. Long term use of Foracort Inhaler in children may slow down the growth rate in children and these children need regular monitoring.
How to Use
The dose of Foracort Inhaler you use and for how long you need to use will be decided by your doctor. Usually, a doctor decides a dose after analysing several factors such as the condition you are being treated, severity of condition, age, or other related factors. For maintenance treatment. Your doctor may ask you use one inhalation twice daily. If you experience sudden onset of asthma symptoms such as wheezing, coughing of trouble breathing, you may need a reliever medication to achieve control over your asthma symptoms. In that situation, your doctor may recommend you take additional inhalations and the total number of inhalations will depend on your age and condition. You should not stop using Foracort inhaler and continue to use it for as long as recommended by your doctor.
