Mkacin 500mg is available in the form of an injection used to prevent or treat a wide range of serious bacterial infections. It contains the active ingredient Amikacin, which belongs to the class of medications known as aminoglycoside antibiotics. Amikacin injection comes in a sterile liquid form to be injected intravenously into a vein or intramuscularly (into the muscle) to stop the growth of bacteria.

    Product Description

Do not use Mikacin injection if you have shown signs of hypersensitivity to Amikacin or any of the other ingredients in the medicine. Avoid taking the medicine if you suffer from a disease called myasthenia gravis (severe weakness of certain muscles in the body). Talk to your doctor before using Mikacin injection if you have kidney problems, an allergy to sulfites, hearing difficulties, tinnitus (buzzing or ringing in the ears), or hearing loss due to antibiotic medicine. You should also inform your doctor if you have shown signs of allergy to any of the antibiotics associated with Amikacin in the past. Mikacin should be used with caution in premature infants. Exercise caution if you are taking or using other medicines, as some could interact with Mikacin injection, for example:

    –   Water tablets such as ethacrynic acid

    –   Other antibiotic medicines interfere with your kidneys hearing or balance.

    –   Indomethacin (an anti-inflammatory medicine)

    –   Anaesthetics or muscle relaxants

    –   Vitamin B1 (thiamine)

    –   Bisphosphonates, medicines used for the treatment of hair loss

    –   Other antibiotics, such as cephalosporins

    –   Cisplatin used in chemotherapy

Do not drive or use machines if you develop dizziness, which may lessen your ability to do so.

    Side Effects

Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, and fever are the common side effects of Amikacin. If any of these effects continue for a longer time or if they worsen, then contact your doctor immediately.

Ambroxol may rarely cause serious side effects such as rash, peeling or blistering of the skin, swelling of eyes or face, hives, difficulty in breathing or swallowing, itching, and severe diarrhea. The information on the side effects of Amikacinin in this guide is incomplete, and there may be other side effects.

    How to Use

Your doctor will decide the correct dose of Amikacin injection and how often it should be given. The dose determination requires blood tests before treatment. In general, the dose depends upon your age, the infection you are suffering from, how well your kidneys are working if you have poor hearing and other medicines you may be using. The injection will usually be given to you two or three times a day for up to ten days.

For adults and children over 12 years: The recommended dose is 15 mg per kg daily, which is given as a single dose or divided into two equal doses of 7.5 mg per kg every twelve hours. The total dose should not exceed 1.5 gm. When the shot is given into the vein, it is usually given over a 30 to 60-minute period.

For children up to twelve years: The recommended dose is 15 to 20 mg per kg of body weight once a day or divided into two equal doses of 7.5 mg per kg, given every twelve hours.

For neonates, the starting dose is 10 mg per kg of body weight, followed by 7.5 mg per kg every twelve hours.

The medicine should be given in the hospital under the supervision of a doctor.
