Tacroz .03% (10 gm) for adults and children aged 2 to 15 years is indicated as second-line therapy for the short-term and non-continuous chronic treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in non-immunocompromised adults and children who have failed to respond adequately to other topical prescription formulations for atopic dermatitis or when those treatments can’t be prescribed.

    Product Description

Do not Tacroz .03% if you are breastfeeding or are allergic to Tacrolimus. Ask your dermatologist about the inactive ingredients, as you may be allergic to any of them. Before you start using the ointment, tell your dermatologist to tell your doctor if you’re using any other prescription, over-the-counter products, or supplements. Also, you should let your dermatologist know if you are receiving any light therapy. Avoid sunlight, tanning booths, and treatment with UVA and UVB. If you must go out in the sun after applying Tacrolimus ointment, wear loose-fitting clothing that protects the treated area from the sun. Also, discuss with your dermatologist what other type of sun protection you can use.

    Side Effects

The most common side effects of Tacroz .03% are soreness, stinging, itching of the treated skin, and a burning feeling with Tacrolimus ointment. These side effects are usually mild to moderate, are most common during the initial days of the treatment and typically begin to resolve if your skin heals.

Less common side effects of Tacrolimus ointment include headache,  swollen or infected hair follicles, increased skin sensitivity to cold or hot temperatures, or flu-like symptoms. Some users may get an upset stomach, skin tingling, muscle pain, and herpes zoster. While you are using  Tacrolimus, alcohol consumption may cause the skin or face to become flushed and feel so hot. Speak to your doctor if these side effects continue or become bothersome.

    How to Use

You can use Tacroz ointment for short or intermittent long periods of treatment. Intermittent means starting or stopping medicine repeatedly, as directed by your doctor. You can apply the product to all affected areas of your skin.

    Usage instructions:

Wash your hands before using  Tacroz .03% ointment. Apply a thin layer to all skin areas your dermatologist has diagnosed eczema. Try to cover the affected areas completely with the medication. Most people found that a pea size amount squeezed from the tube covers the size of a two-inch circle. Apply the formulation twice daily, about twelve hours apart. Before applying the ointment after a bath or a shower, your skin is completely dry.

You should not cover the skin being treated with clothing or bandages. Unless otherwise advised by your dermatologist, do not apply another topical formulation on top of Tacrolimus. However, normal clothing is allowed. Take a bath after applying the formulation; this could wash off the medicine.

Moisturizers can be used with Tacroz ointment. Be sure to check with your doctor first about the products that are right for them. This is because patients with eczema can have very dry skin. Therefore it is important to keep up good skin practices. If you wish to apply moisturizer, apply them after Tacroz ointment. This ointment is meant for application on the skin only and to swallow.
