Xtane 25 mg for oral administration contains 25 mg of the active ingredient Exemestane, which belongs to a group of drugs known as aromatase inhibitors. These drugs interfere with the natural substance called aromatase, which is required to produce estrogen, a female sex hormone in postmenopausal women. High levels of estrogen hormone support the growth of a certain type of breast cancer. So, reducing the estrogen level in the body is an effective way to treat hormone-dependent cancer. Xtane tablets are useful in treating hormone-dependent early breast cancer in postmenopausal women those who have already completed 2 to 3 years of treatment with tamoxifen. It is also used for the treatment of hormone-dependent advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women, especially when another hormonal drug treatment has not worked well.

Before treatment with Xtane 25 mg tablets, your doctor may want to perform blood tests to get confirmed whether you have reached the menopause. Before this hormone drug treatment, it is important to tell your doctor if you have problems with your kidneys or liver. Your doctor should be aware of your medical history, in particular any condition that affects the strength of your bones. Your doctor will conduct a bone density test before and during the treatment. It is essential because of the medicine lower levels of female sex hormone, which may contribute to loss of mineral content of bones. This, in turn, might decrease bone strength. Use of other medicines at the same time as hormonal replacement therapy can affect the way your other medicines work. Let your doctor know if are using medicines such as phenytoin, rifampicin, and the herbal remedy St Johns Wort.
Side Effects
Xtane 25 mg can cause side effects; however, not everyone gets these side effects if you develop symptoms like feeling generally unwell, itching, loss of appetite, and right-sided abdominal pain. These symptoms could indicate towards symptoms of inflammation of the liver, which is an uncommon side effect. In general, Exemestane tablets are well-tolerated, but a few patients receiving this hormone drug treatment get mild to moderate side effects. Most of the side effects are associated with a shortage of estrogen hormone in the body. The common side effect that occurs due to low levels of estrogen is hot flushes. The hormone drug therapy is not suitable for use in children. If you consume more Exemestane tablets than prescribed by your doctor, speak to your doctor straight away.
