Januvia 100 mg contains the active ingredient Sitagliptin, a class of DPP-4 inhibitors that helps control blood sugar levels in adult patients with Type 2 diabetes. Sitagliptin works by increasing the levels of insulin produced after a meal and decreasing the amount of sugar made by the body. Your doctor has prescribed Januvia 100 mg to help lower blood sugar, which is too high because you have Type 2 diabetes. The antidiabetic agent can be given as a monotherapy or with certain other medicines (such as metformin, sulfonylurea, glitazones, and insulin) to lower blood sugar which you may already be taking to control your diabetes together with a diet and exercise plan.

    Product Description

You should not take Januvia 100 mg if you are hypersensitive to Sitagliptin or its ingredients. Pancreatitis or inflammation of the pancreas has been reported in patients receiving Januvia.

Before taking Sitagliptin, inform your doctor if you have ever had:

    — Pancreatitis- a disease of the pancreas

    — Type 1 diabetes

    — Any past or present kidney problems

    — An allergic reaction to Sitagliptin

    — Diabetic ketoacidosis- a complication associated with diabetes often accompanied by high blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, and rapid weight loss

    — Gallstones, alcohol dependence, or excessively high levels of triglycerides in your bloodstream

Januvia is less likely to cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) because it does not work when your blood sugar is too low. However, hypoglycemia episodes may occur when this drug is combined with insulin or sulfonylurea medicine. Your doctor may prescribe a reduced dose of insulin or sulfonylurea.

Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicine. In particular, let your doctor know if you are taking digoxin, which is used to treat irregular heartbeat and other heart diseases. The level of digoxin in your bloodstream may need to be checked if taken with Sitagliptin tablets.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as your doctor for advice before taking this antidiabetic agent. You should avoid taking this medicine during pregnancy if it is unknown if it passes into breast milk. You should not take Sitagliptin if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

    Side Effects

The most common side effect of Januvia 100 mg is a headache. This is usually temporary and improves with time. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is a possible side effect if you take other medicines like sulfonylurea or insulin. It is important to recognize the symptoms of Hypoglycaemia and know how to deal with it. Contact your doctor if the side effects worry you or if they do not resolve within a few days.

    How to Use

You must always take this antidiabetic medicine exactly as told by your doctor. Speak to your doctor if you are unsure how to take medicine. The usual recommended dose is 100 mg once a day. If you have renal impairment, your doctor may prescribe a lower dose. You can take this antidiabetic medicine before or after consuming food. Lifestyle modifications such as diet and regular exercise can help your body use its blood sugar better. It is important to stick to the diet and exercise recommended by your doctor while taking Sitagliptin tablets.

If you accidentally take too many tablets, contact your doctor immediately. Be sure to take this medicine as long as your doctor prescribes it until it’s time for your next dose so you will be able to control your blood sugar.
